DMZ Home Schooling?

I've been getting asked a lot "WHAT is DMZ Home Schooling?". Good question! Here's the answer:

Background:

When we were born, we came from heaven and a veil of forgetfulness was put over our eyes so we would forget our premortal life. This is necessary so we can learn faith.

Analogy:

Between North Korea and South Korea is the DMZ (demilitarized zone). Neither country owns this, and both guard it.

North Korea is an oppressive communist country. South Korea is a free and democratic country.

We'll liken North Korea to the mortal world and South Korea to the Heavenly realm. In between the two lies the "Veil" (the DMZ).

If you are fully in North Korea, then you are entrenched in the world. Many people live in various parts of North Korea. Some live near the DMZ and enjoy frequent spiritual experiences. Some live in the farthest reaches of North Korea and deny that the spiritual world even exists.

If you are fully in South Korea, then you are "dead". In other words, your spirit is no longer in your body.

If you live in the DMZ....

There are some who live in the DMZ. If you live closer to North Korea, then perhaps you aren't "quite right" compared to the "neural-typical" person, but you are very spiritually sensitive. If you live closer to South Korea, then perhaps you are profoundly autistic because you aren't seeing the mortal realm but more of the spiritual.

Then there are some who dance in the DMZ. These are they who are somewhere on the autistic spectrum but can't quite be labeled (other than PDDNOS). These are the people like my daughter.

Sometimes she is very "present" in the world and very "with it". Sometimes, however, she is off in her own little zip code and talking to spirits and just generally ignoring the mortal realm altogether.

Thus, we have been home schooling in the DMZ. It's been an interesting journey. Charlotte has dyslexia (it's easier for her to read a book that's upside down than it is to read a book that's right-side-up). She's intelligent, but the whole "anything in print" thing was really throwing her for a loop.

At one point in her life, Charlotte would hide in corners and behind chairs if she got scared by a sudden noise. Now her teachers can't tell that she's ever been diagnosed on the autistic spectrum.

"ummm...... Teachers? But aren't YOU her teacher, being a home schooling family and all?"

Yes, I am, but this year we've been taking advantage of the Department of Defense School (DoDs School) here on base.

Anyhoo, that's the quick explanation of DMZ home schooling. I may write more later. I might not. It depends on what my mood is, and where I'm dancing in the DMZ.
